At the Amsterdam Global Conference on Sustainability and Transparency, held in May in Holland, the Petrobras Social and Environmental Report 2006 won the GRI Readers’ Choice Awards trophy in the “Civil Society” and “All Stakeholder Groups” categories. The award, which recognizes the world’s most transparent and sustainable reports, was sponsored by Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the acknowledged international standard-setter for guidelines for the preparation of sustainability reports. More than 1700 readers from 70 countries voted on the Internet for the balance sheets considered most complete according to the readers to whom they were addressed – civil society, investors, the media, and employees. The “All Stakeholder Groups” category combines the totals of all the votes cast in all the other categories. 800 reports from 50 countries competed for the awards. The Petrobras Social and Environmental Report, audited by independent external organizations, has followed the GRI guidelines since the 2002 edition. For two consecutive years (2005 and 2006) the report was considered “Notable” by the Global Compact signatories. Since then it has been globally considered “benchmark.”
In April 2008, Petrobras registered a new daily record in the volume of Brazilian oils exported, a total of 532,000 bpd, surpassing its previous record, achieved in November 2006, of 484,000 bpd. The record volume exported in April was produced in the fields of Marlim (223,000 bpd), East Albacora (170,000 bpd), Roncador Heavy (73,000 bpd), Roncador (34,000 bpd), and Marlim (33,000 bpd from P-37). The fuel was sent to such places as the American part of the Gulf of Mexico, the West Coast of United States, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and China. The record was achieved, in large measure, by the logistics employed, which included the combination of different types of oil in the same shipment, adding value to Petrobras. Revenue generated from the export record was approximately US$ 1.72 billion, considering the physical shipments of oil from Brazil in the month of April, which contributed substantially to the Brazilian commercial balance of payments. The invoices for these loads have yet to be accounted for.
