Petrobras is growing at home and abroad committed to social and environmental responsibility and excellence in HSE
In the 57th issue of Petrobras Magazine, you will find out that, despite the global economic crisis, Petrobras is going to invest US$ 174.4 billion in Brazil and abroad through 2013 and will expand nationally and internationally, combining profitability, social and environmental responsibility, and the search for excellence in Health, Safety, and the Environment.
In the “Special” section, you will read about the details of investments and major projects foreseen in Petrobras’ revised and updated Business Plan, which is already in force and is valid through 2013. The investments are destined to the segments of Exploration and Production, Supply, Gas and Energy, Distribution, Biofuels, Petrochemicals and Corporate, in Brazil and abroad. In the pre-salt province alone, projected investment is US$ 29 billion. The expectation is, in the long term, to transform Brazil into one of the major oil producing countries in the world, and also an exporter.
The “International” section reports on Petrobras’ purchase of Exxon’s fuel distribution assets in Chile and shows that the company is also expanding in South America.
In the “Interview” section, you will learn about the technology programs through which the Petrobras R&D center, CENPES, provides technological solutions for the company and ensures it the know-how and the confidence to face new challenges.
Petrobras’ optimism is shared by the Latin American heads of state, even though they believe that, to overcome the crisis, considered transitory, global cooperation will be fundamental, in addition to financial assistance programs for countries, more short-term liquidity, the strengthening of protectionist-free trade, and the expansion of social protection networks, among other measures. You will read about this in the “Energy” section, in the article on the Global Economic Forum- Latin America.
In the section “HSE,” you will see that in the Petrobras System, in Brazil and abroad, both growth and excellence in Health, Safety, and the Environment are sought. The Strategic Excellence in HSE project is an example of this. The project, which has already begun to generate results, is based on the pillars of the integrated management of HSE; operational and product ecoefficiency; the prevention of accidents, incidents, and irregularities; the health of employees; the readiness to act in emergencies; and the minimization of risks and liabilities.
Finally, you will learn that, if Petrobras invests in its core activities, it also invests in social and environmental responsibility. In the 47 projects selected within the Petrobras Environmental Program alone, R$ 60 million will be invested, as shown in the “Environment” section. And in the social area, R$ 9.6 million will be applied in the implementation of one thousand Integrated and Sustainable Agroecological Production units in Brazil, which will make possible the raising of poultry and the cultivation of vegetables and fruit in a cyclical usage system without the use of pesticides, benefiting 1,182 families.
